The NSI Minor Leage Report: Opening Day

Today we are proud to introduce the newest author to the New Stadium Insider team. Yanks 26 is a true "diamond in the rough" that we came across on the near-defunct Stadium Insider message boards. Every single day of 2008, Yanks26 (formerly known as Yanks27 on the boards - he is optimistic) did us all a service by posting minor league recaps in an extremely readable and concise manner. We're aware that this information is widely available on the internet, but we're confident that Yanks26's minor league updates will have you hooked - thats why you won't see boxscores here. Mike Ashmore and Chad Jennings are obviously the go-to guys for detailed minor league analysis. However, if you are on the go and want quick-hitting information from an extremely knowledgeable fan of the New York Yankees farm system, you had better start reading what Yanks26 has to say.

Thursday 4/9

It was opening day for Scranton, Tampa and Charleston. Scranton put up double digit runs, behind Juan Miranda's 5 RBI's. Trenton pulled out the tying run in the 9th and won in the 14th.
Tampa lost, while Jesus Montero was held hitless. Charleston lost, and scored only 2 runs on 13 hits. They've been studying the Yankees. Andrew Brackman made his minor league debut, and looked like the pitcher in Hawaii, still trying to find his rhythm after TJ surgery. Brackman gave up 6 runs in 5 innings, while walking 3, with 2 wild pitches and committing and error.

I have an SI plan so I've seen like 90% of Charleston's roster a bunch. None of the position player graduates there are really interesting except David Adams (Lassiter doesn't count since he didn't put in much time) , but Brad Rulon is a relief pitcher to keep an eye on. He's got an average fastball and a really good breaking ball.

I'm also interested to see how Maruszak fares in Tampa.
Charleston has some interesting position players in Angelini, Adams (as you mentioned), Almonte, Lassiter (who has great upside), and Weems. Their pitching is also interesting as well. I'm going to try to get down to Charleston this summer.

Speaking of getting out to minor league parks, I still have never been to see a Staten Island Yankees game. Gotta do that this year.
It's a very nice little park. Plus, if the game gets boring sometimes giant ships go by and that's always fun.
