The PECOTA depth charts are out which means the Baseball Prospectus projected standings have been released.
In the first iteration, the Yankees win an impressive 97 games, but end up one game behind the Red Sox for the AL East crown. This first version should be taken with an especially large grain of salt since there have been well documented errors in the PECOTA database for the first run through (many have been fixed already as of last check). Also, there is an inordinate number of big name players out there who can really change the complexion of the projected standings.
This doesn't really tell us anything we didn't already know - the Yankees and the Red Sox are both VERY good teams and without a barrage of injuries and misfortune, both should be playing in October.
Talk about it in the Stadium Insider Forums!
