Wednesday July 15
There were two debuts that had stellar results. Sam Black, a 7th round pick from Seton Hall, who reaches the mid 90's, pitched 5 shutout innings with 3 hits for Staten Island. Judd Golson a HS kid out of Alabama, who is as fast as Brett Gardner and is as tough as nails, played center for GCL Yanks. He went 2 for 6 with 3 runs scored.
The AAA and AA leagues had their all star games. Austin Jackson went 1 for 3, with a triple, while Jesus Montero went 2 for 2, but had 4 stolen bases against and a passed ball.
Neil Medchill has homered in 3 consecutive games and leads the NY Penn League in homers by two. Keith Law of ESPN had interesting comp on Jesus Montero, since he generates so much power and swings off his front leg, like The Big Hurt, Frank Thomas. It was meant as a mechanical comp, not necessarily a 521 career home run prediction.
