The NSI Minor League Report: Must Have Been A Full Moon

Monday 7/13

Scranton is off until Thursday, while Jesus Montero hasn't returned from his future's game. There were several odd occurrences: In Trenton the fill in catcher, Ryan Baker, threw out 4 runners attempting a stolen base, plus the starting pitcher, Wilkins De La Rosa picked off another runner. In Charleston, the opposition (Hickory) committed 5 errors in one inning to hand the game over. Also Melky II (Mesa) had his 17th outfield assist of the year, throwing out a runner at home from his right field position.

What does anyone know about Fransciso Arcia? He is raking with a 350 average down in GCL, after only having a modest showing in the DSL last year. Is he for real? How is he behind the plate? Can he be included with the other yankee catcher prospects, and if so, how does he compare?
He's good defensively and seems to have found himself behind the plate. We have so much depth in the catching ranks that there's virtually no chance for him to see The Bronx. If he was in the system in 2004 or so, we'd be talking about him as a possible successor. The great depth of catching prospects is going to fill the void when Posada leaves and then will give us the chips to acquire other blue chip prospects, depending on how they develop.
