New Yankee Stadium Opening Day Weather Forecast

The day is finally here. Today, the New York Yankees officially christen their new $1.6 billion dollar stadium in the Bronx. Last year, opening day was rained out and it caused headaches for many people who make coming to the stadium for the first game of the season a yearly tradition. This year, we have Steve DiMartino of NYNJPAWeather.com contributing exclusive game day forecasts for games that matter the most, so you are prepared for the elements.

New York has been very lucky with weather conditions and opening stadiums! Today, high pressure will provide excellent weather conditions with clear skies, light and variable winds, and seasonable temperatures. Through the game temperatures will range from 59 to 62 degrees range so a light jacket or light sweater would be a good idea. Weather conditions should have little if any impact on the game.

That last sentence is music to our ears. If you are heading out to the big ballpark in the Bronx, rest assured that the weather will be beautiful. 10 a.m.: Gates open

12:10 p.m.: West Point Band performs in center field

12:30 p.m.: Introduction of Yankees alumni, introduction of home plate and mound from old Stadium

12:42 p.m.–12:53 p.m.: Baseline introductions

12:53 p.m.: Introduction of giant American flag, unfurled by West Point cadets.

12:53:30 p.m.: Flyover introduction, 174th Fighter Wing

12:54 p.m.: Presentation of colors by NYPD/FDNY Color Guard

12:54:30 p.m.: National anthem by Kelly Clarkson

12:56 p.m.: National Anthem, F-16C flyover

1:01 p.m.: Ceremonial first pitch: Yogi Berra

1:04 p.m.: Umpires and managers to home plate

1:06 p.m.: Yankees take the field

1:08 p.m.: First pitch

You read correctly - they are introducing inanimate objects; the old mound and home plate. Fear not, loyal NSI readers, we don't plan on publishing an article about Linda Ruth Tosetti's unhappiness because the Babe Ruth monument wasn't the first inanimate object announced at the old new Yankee Stadium. Unsubstantiated Yankee Ticket Rumor

Internet rumors are swirling about the possibility of an account-holder pre-sale for opening day Yankee tickets - ONLY for the plan holders who are not receiving opening day tickets within their plans (Full season and B).

That is a mouthful. Basically, if you are a Yankee season ticket holder and your plan doesn't include opening day, you will be part of this pre-sale.

The rumor sounds about right, as the Yankees did something very similar last year for the final home game. In 2008, all plan holders not entitled to the final game had an exclusive pre-sale opportunity for that game. In the rarest of rare cases, the ticketmaster system performed up to par for that pre-sale, and there were few complaints. We can only hope that is the case again this year.

Andy Pettite to pitch Opener at New Stadium?

With the Yankees rotation all but settled, our new section-buddy BuckyBadger weighs in on who will pitch the first game at the new Stadium for the Bombers:

Andy Pettitte has signed on to be our 5th starter. The 10th game of the season is the Yankees home opener. Anyone see where I'm going with this? The first man to officially throw a baseball off the mound at the new cathedral of baseball will be someone who truely(sic) deserves it.

I hope Pettitte pitches the home opener as well, but I certainly don't think he deserves it anymore than Wang, or Sabathia would. But wouldn't it be something if Pettitte, the only remaining starter from the dynasty years, gets a win in the opener?! Better yet, in a game where Jeter and Posada both homer, and Mo notches a save. Ahh, dynasty wet dreams!
