Update (9/12/09 - 11:15 AM): This courtesy of Steve:
Weak bands of showers are rotating through central New Jersey and will move through the Bronx this afternoon. These showers are generally light and should not cause a postponement, but will likely produce an environment favorable for delays.

Original post follows:

Well, last night was quite the evening. Nearly three hours worth of delays, but it was all worth it since they got the entire game in and Derek Jeter made history. Today's game won't have nearly as much drama, but the Yankees still haven't clinched anything yet, and are battling for homefield advantage throughout the playoffs. There should be a big crowd in the house, so there are probably some people wondering about how the weather will impact the game.

Here is what Steve from NYNJPAWeather.com has to say about the lingering rain in the area. Everyone should remember to check out Steve's great website, which provides much more detailed forecasts than we have here. He also has a blossoming consulting service for small businesses. Definitely check that out if the weather conditions affect your business. Without further ado, here is Steve with Saturday's Yankee Stadium weather forecast:
The coastal low will slowly exit the region this afternoon with overcast skies and a few lingering showers. Drier conditions can be expected as the game progresses. Winds will back to the north around 10 to 15 mph. Temperatures will range from the mid to upper 60’s through the game.

Game Delay Potential:
Moderate: Showers will linger through the start of the game with a potential for a delay of the start of the game.

Game Postponement:
Low: The showers will become light and decrease in coverage through the game. With drier conditions setting in, I do not expect a postponement.

Series versus O’s: On Sunday, high pressure will take hold with clearing skies, a northwest wind around 5 to 10 mph, and temperatures in the mid 70’s through the game.

Rest of the Home Stand: Strong high pressure will take hold by Sunday night and remain in control through Wednesday. Optimal playing conditions are expected for the remainder of the home stand.

Also, Steve wanted us to let the readers know that although he is a Mets fan, he will be at Yankee Stadium to see what it is like to see a winning team in a pennant race. He is in section 225, row 9, seat 3, so go and say hi if you are a fan of his weather forecasts. Also, be sure to follow his updates on Twitter. Read the full post, after the jump

NSI Game Day Weather Forecast - 8/12/09 - Yankees vs. Toronto - Rain Will Impact The Game

Looks like rain will be a factor in today's home stand finale. Here is what Steve from NYNJPAWeather.com has to say:

An upper level disturbance and a stationary front will support the development of scattered showers over the Bronx throughout the afternoon hours. Otherwise, broken to overcast cloud cover can be expected with winds from the east around 5 to 15 mph. Temperatures through the game will range from 79 to 81 degrees.

Game Delay Potential: High Widespread showers will move over the Bronx throughout the afternoon, which will produce rather wet conditions and a very good chance for a lengthy delay of game.

Game Postponement: Moderate There is a change that a postponement may happen due to the rainfall. Showers will continue to increase in coverage as the afternoon wares on, which may force the Yankee’s hand to postpone the game.

NSI Game Day Weather Forecast - 7/23/09 Yankees vs. A's - Major Threat Of Rain Delay Or Postponement

Update (6:30 PM): From Steve:
The steady, heavy rain is ending over much of NJ with the western edge over coastal/ eastern NJ. The surface low is starting to move east along with the rain shield at any expected slow pace. The edge of the heavy rain should reach the Bronx in rougly 2 hours. As far as the game, personally I would have cancelled already.

The mid to late evening should feature drying conditions with only a few lingering showers.
Update (3:25 PM): Steve has checked in via email to let us know that if the Yankees wait to start until 8:30 PM, they should be able to get the game in.

Update (1:10 PM): Just realized that the Yankees have a Twitter page for weather updates! Follow @YankeesWeather for the latest (this replaces the Yankees weather updates page on Yankees.com).

UPDATE (12:30 PM): Steve checks in with the following:
Forecast is going to plan so far. Bronx will have periods of heavy rain but not as bad as points to the south. If I was running things I'd postpone now. Why risk injury? However the rain will taper off this evening from NW to SE which will cause them to wait out the storm.
Our response to that is because they don't want to have to play a doubleheader!

Welcome back to April 20th! The Yankees and A's are once again ready to start a series in the Bronx, but just like in April, the weather gods have other plans. There is significant rainfall in the forecast which is likely to affect your plans if you are heading out to the Yankees game this evening. Luckily, we have Steve DiMartino of NYNJPAWeather.com on board to tell us everything that we need to know.

Game Today: Start time 7:05 PM vs Oakland

Wind Direction This EveningWind Direction This Evening

The forecast for the game this evening is basically like walking a tight rope as the Bronx will be right on the edge of the steady, and at times, heavy rainfall. The heaviest rainfall will remain to the east of Yankee Stadium this evening, however showers will remain a threat through this evening. The individual showers that will move through the Bronx this evening will be capable of heavy downpours. Winds will be from the east and northeast around 5 to 15 mph, increasing to 10 to 20 mph through the game. Temperatures will range from 71 to 68 degrees. So there is a very high threat for some long delays at Yankee stadium this evening with a potential for a postponement.

Rest of the series:

Conditions will be far better for the rest of the series compared to tonight.

A cold front will move through the region on Friday evening with scattered showers and thunderstorms. A delay to the start of the game is possible, however as the evening progresses drier conditions can be expected with a west to southwesterly wind. Temperatures will range from 75 to 72 degrees.

High pressure will dominate on Saturday afternoon with the Yankees playing at 1:05 PM. Expect dry conditions with a westerly wind around 5 to 10 mph. Temperatures will range from the upper 70’s to mid 80’s through the game.

On Sunday, the Yankees play at 1:05 PM once again. A cold front will approach the Bronx, however rain is expected to hold off until the late afternoon hours. Much of the game should be played rain free with a southwesterly wind around 5 to 15 mph. Temperatures will range from the upper 70’s to mid 80’s.

Steve is a lot more optimistic than we are about tonight's game being played, but he is the meteorologist, and it seems that things have taken a jog to the east (offshore) since we looked at the weather last night. At that time, the National Weather Service had a flood watch in effect, meaning fans will be weary of travel and those making the decision regarding cancellation of the game might be quick with their trigger finger. If the game gets postponed tonight the Yankees will have to decide whether to have a doubleheader on Friday or Saturday, as the A's are already making their second and final trip into the Bronx this season. Tickets will likely be good for the postponed game, which will be part of a day/night doubleheader. Hopefully we won't need to worry about that scenario.

If you are heading out to tonight's game, be sure to have an umbrella, a poncho, and plenty of money for concessions - it might be a long night. Read the full post, after the jump

Yankees vs. Mariners Weather Update - Early Thunderstorms Likely To Cause A Delay

Hey! The Yankees are home. That means that there must be rain in New York City. Here is Steve from NYNJPAWeather.com with an update on how this weather will affect you for the entire home stand.
You know, maybe the Yankees should have invested in a dome or some sort. This forecast is going to sound rather familiar to a lot of Yankee fans out there.

The constant theme through the home stand will be the continued threat for showers and thunderstorms each and every day through this weekend and into early next week, which basically covers the entire time period that the Yankees are home. An upper low parked over the Great Lakes will basically sling shot one disturbance after another through the Bronx, which will produce an environment highly favorable for showers and strong to severe thunderstorms.

Tonight will be no different. A line of strong to severe thunderstorms will approach the Bronx by around the start of the game. The thunderstorms should move relatively quickly, however lingering showers will be a nunsiance through the game tonight. Expect a delay to the start of the game or in the early portion of the game as these thunderstorms pass through. Frankly, if I was the manager and these storms were close, I would stall as much as possible as not to waste a start from your starting pitcher. Winds will be from the south around 10 to 20 mph, which will have a right to left influence over the outfield. Temperatures will range from the lower 80's to mid 70's through the game time. These thunderstorms tonight are not be taken lightly as they will be capable of ground to cloud lightning, large hail, heavy downpours, and very strong wind gusts. An isolated tornado is possible, but I doubt that threat will enter the Bronx this evening given the marine influence.
For the weather geeks out there, here is some updated radar:

Be careful out there.

On another note, sorry for the lack of a home stand preview. We started it, but real life just keeps getting in the way.
